Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist in Johannesburg

Your pelvic floor is an important part of your body, but it’s often something we don’t talk about enough. Pelvic health physiotherapy looks at the pelvic floor, as well as the muscles, joints and tissues around the pelvis, to help with concerns such as bladder and bowel control, pelvic pain, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, sexual health and returning to exercise.

What Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Treats

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles supporting the bladder, bowel and uterus. Like any muscle group it can become weak, overactive or poorly coordinated. When that happens the symptoms can be uncomfortable, limiting and, for many women, embarrassing enough that they go unmentioned for years.

Angela treats:

  • Urinary incontinence — leaking when you cough, sneeze, laugh, run or lift, or a sudden urge you can't hold

  • Pelvic organ prolapse — heaviness, dragging or a bulge sensation

  • Pelvic pain — ongoing pain in the pelvis, lower abdomen or tailbone

  • Pain during/after intercourse

  • Recovery after gynaecological surgery — hysterectomy, prolapse repair

  • Overactive or tight pelvic floor muscles
