When Pain Persists
If you've had pain for months or years, you've likely been told your scans look fine, or that you'll need to learn to live with it. Neither is much help, and the second isn't true.
Pain lasting beyond about three months behaves differently from the pain of an acute injury. The nervous system becomes more sensitive over time, and pain stops being a reliable measure of what's happening in the tissue. That's why a scan can look unremarkable while the pain is entirely real. It isn't imagined.
Because pain is complex, recovery is not about "pushing through", it is about gradually retraining the nervous system through movement, education, pacing and feeling safe again.
Angela works with persistent low back and neck pain, fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome, pain that has continued after surgery, chronic pelvic pain, recurring headaches, widespread musculoskeletal pain, and pain accompanying neurological conditions.
Treatment takes place at the consulting rooms in Poplar on Park Shopping Centre, Riverclub, Sandton — wheelchair accessible with parking — or at home across Sandton and the northern suburbs.
